 Sleep Out

We had a very successful, but very cold, sleep out in Queens Square at the beginning of March in partnership with YMCA Crawley Foyer. Thirty people slept out and everyone was sponsored, so far over £5000 has been raised which will be split between Open House and the Foyer. Included in those sleeping out were staff, volunteers and friends from both organisations, local and county councillors and ex clients. During the night we were helped with food and hot drinks from Pizza Hut, Subway, Costa Coffee and Cupcake Genie. County Mall donated lots of cardboard boxes to make shelters from.

Riverside House

A really invaluable service has been provided for us during the last few months by S4B  a company who provide a secure shredding service. It is something that you don’t really think about but in our type of work we have a great deal of confidential paperwork that we used to break many small shredders with. Now S4B provide a secure collection box, empty it on a regular basis, shred it and it is all free of charge to us. Many thanks to Steve Rham for his kindness – he is on 01293 534966

It will soon be time for our gardening group to start planning for the summer, if any of you might have spare bedding plants or things to go in hanging baskets or tubs please let us know. We like to make Riverside look really colourful each summer.

TV

We are now the proud owners of two large 51” televisions and stand’s complete with Blu Ray and Freeview. They were donated to both of our hostels by the Sussex Masons Golf Society. We are so grateful to them, it is the first time in twelve years that we have ever had a new television. It really is nice to have something new and up to date for our clients.

Southwell Lodge

The hostel is full with five young men and five young women in residence. All of them are either in College or being taught in the hostel. We have now received six months notice of our main funding stream (Supporting People) ceasing. We are having to compete in a competitive tendering process to retain the funding for another three years. A worrying time but hopefully with a happy ending, more details in the next newsletter.

HELP

The increased demand on our services means that we are already running low on some essentials. If any of you are able to help we really do need supplies of sugar, UHT milk and coffee We are having to buy these items now as our supplies have all gone.

Website

Our website www.crawleyopenhouse.co.uk  has been completely re-vamped, is very up to date and is really worth a quick look.
