PEOPLE

 Sue Miles

Sue is the Senior Advice Worker at Riverside House.

She is the longest serving serving member of staff and she has been with Open House since it first opened 18 years ago.

Initially she worked as one of the volunteers running the project. When eventually funding was obtained for paid staff she became a part time Advice Worker.

Over the years she progressed to full time and then became the Senior Advice Worker.

Sue is known for the wealth of knowledge she has accumulated and for her kind, caring and non judgemental manner when talking to clients

Sue is also a long serving member of The Easter Team in Crawley.

Her husband Charlie and son Paul are also supporters of Open House and whenever we have a special event they can be seen slaving over a hot barbecue.

 Veronica Strachan

Veronica resigned as a Trustee at our AGM in September.

She has been a Trustee since Crawley open House started in 1994 working latterly as Company Secretary and as a long term member of the Finance Committee. She also served on the Personnel Committee for a number of years.

She visited the Project on a regular weekly basis, sometimes several times a week, and she was well known and liked by staff and clients and always willing to help anybody in need

Crawley Open House really would not be the in the position it is now without all of the work that Veronica put in to it over the last fifteen years.

Rev. Peter Farquhar

Peter was Crawley Open House Chaplain and a Trustee for almost six years.

Very sadly he passed away on 15th August 2011 following a major heart attack.

As can be seen in his picture he always had a smile on his face which endeared him to everyone, clients and staff.

Over the years he has helped more clients than we can count both practically and spiritually and he was always there for any member of staff who needed to talk.

Through Peter, his church Greenfields Baptist supported Open House with donations both financial and in kind. Most importantly they welcomed staff and clients to any event or service they held.

Peter will be remembered with love for many years at Open House and he is already very sadly missed.

Glenn Stubbs

Is our Senior Manager

He has recently  fundraised for us by doing a grand adventure. He drove a Tuc Tuc (imagine a three wheeled lawn mower with a roof on!) From Jakarta to Bankok. About 1400 miles through jungles, bandit country, mountain passes and all with no back up at all. If things went wrong he just had to fix them

We are delighted to have been honoured by receiving the 'Crawley Champion of Carers' award at the recent Crawley Champion's evening.

The team to the left represented us all at the evening at the Hawth theatre.

Many thanks to the anonymous nominator and also to the judging panel who recognised the work we do in supporting people in need in Crawley.
