Former homeless man turned his life around to cook Christmas dinner for hundreds in need

A man who was homeless at the age of 16 is spending his Christmas cooking dinner and giving gifts to those in need.

Simon Whitter, from Formby, lived on the streets of Manchester for six months as a teenager after he came out of a care home with no family and nowhere to turn to.

Simon said he soon turned to crime as a way to get himself off the streets and in the years that followed he became an alcoholic.

The 46-year-old said it wasn't until he came out of prison in 2003, after serving a sentence for criminal damage, that he suddenly had "tunnel vision" and "released he wanted to change".
