Homeless charities and councils are steeling themselves for an increase in rough sleepers as Covid-induced hardship continues to bite.
In some parts of East Surrey, the number of people becoming homeless has risen sharply, but in others government measures are credited for keeping it in check. The problem may however become more acute this winter.
Renewed Hope Trust normally opens a 10-bed night shelter in church halls across Tandridge and Reigate and Banstead throughout the three coldest months of the year. Distancing and hygiene restrictions mean it cannot reopen this December.
